Exhibition; “If I had to flee..” 

From January 17th 2017: Presenting a selection of contributions from last autumn’s drawing and writing competition for 5th–7th graders, incl. 19 county winners.

4000 submitted drawings
Over 4,000 drawings from across the country were submitted and a jury of the Ylvis Brothers – Bård and Vegard Ylvisåker, Ellen Sandøe from UNICEF Norway, director Angela Goldin from The International Museum of Children’s Art and 11 year old Eivind and Nathanya from St Sunniva School in Oslo selected 19 county winners, incl. three main winners.
The exhibition presents all 19 county winners and textual contributions from autumn’s drawing and writing competition for 5th-7th grade, organized by Aftenposten Junior, Unicef, The International Museum of Children’s Art. Participants visual and written contributions are important voices by children around Norway about what matters most to them in their lives – and how they imagine it may be to have to leave your home and flee to a foreign country.

The exhibition is a result of a cooperation between UNICEF Norway, The International Museum of Children’s Art and newspaper Aftenposten Junior and was based on Unicef Norway’s educational program “Children on the run”

28 million children worldwide are fleeing. 6 million Syrian children are fleeing from war in their home country, which will soon have lasted for six years.
This is a very important issue, and also something that concerns many children.
This exhibition shows that many children have reflected on the theme, says Ellen Sandøe, head of children and young people department in UNICEF Norway – and it is important that school is an arena that allows for calls and processing of current news.
The long term aim and plan is that the exhibition eventually will be shown in schools and /or tour libraries in several of the country’s provinces and municipalities.
