Portraits

PORTRAITS created by children and young people
Selections from the museum’s collection

In this exhibition, you are invited to see the human face – through the eyes of children and young people.

The museum presents a rich and varied selection of portraits from the collection, all created by young artists of different ages. What emerges is a diverse gallery of personalities, expressions, emotions, and stories – each one told with the honesty, imagination, and boldness that only the young truly dare to express.

Some portraits are bursting with color and detail, eyes that seem to look straight through you. Others are more abstract or symbolic – a few strokes of a pencil, a splash of paint – yet they speak just as loudly. These are portraits of real people and invented ones, of friends, family members, strangers, and selves. Some are joyful, others mysterious, playful, or even haunting.

Through these images, we gain insight into how children and young people view the world – and themselves. These portraits reveal how identity can be explored, questioned, and reshaped. They remind us that being seen and seeing others is a deeply human need, and that art is a powerful way to connect across ages and experiences.

And if you pause – and really listen – you might just hear one of the portraits whisper back to you. A secret, a story, a small truth. For the voices of the young are not only creative – they are often wiser, braver, and more open than we expect.

Step into a world seen through young eyes.
