In an inspiring collaboration with Ideas Beyond Borders, The International Museum of Children’s Art in Oslo presents children’s art from Afghanistan, a collection of creative expressions that testify to the resilience, creativity and hope of young talent. Through knowledge and resources, Ideas Beyond Borders has worked to give individuals and communities in the Middle East the tools they need to create a better future.
Art as an expression of hope
Art has always been a medium of expression, and in Afghanistan, where young people have been through challenging times, art becomes a natural outlet for emotions, dreams and hopes. The children use colors and shapes to bring their stories to life, and in this exhibition we get an insight into their world.
Ideas Beyond Borders
The organization Ideas Beyond Borders believes in the power of education and information. Through workshops and creative projects, they give children in Afghanistan the opportunity to explore and develop their skills in art and other creative subjects. This initiative not only helps with personal development, but also builds community identity and gives a voice to those who are often overlooked.

Underground schools in Afghanistan to ensure girls get the education they need.
The Taliban’s seizure of power in 2021 dealt a serious blow to Afghan women, who had spent the last two decades fighting for their rights and roles in society. Ideas Beyond Borders works with local partners in the country to fund secret underground schools to counter this oppression and help girls get the vital education they need. Between 2021 and December 2023, 8007 students were enrolled in two hidden schools supported by Ideas Beyond Borders, with 4615 enrolled just this year. More than 53 teachers provided education in 38 secret locations, covering 20 subjects. Led by local teachers, the Underground Schools initiative offers students access to facilities, educational resources and a safe environment to continue their secondary education.
